Imagine teaching our kids to outsource their homework!
It was roughly 9 years ago that I was sitting at my desk, working from home (almost like living in an episode of back to the future right!) with a toddler pottering around while I was on a call with my colleague - Graeme Codrington (thinking back, it was probably a Skype call, the blackberry of zoom.)
Anyway, I can’t remember what the call was about, but I do remember the conversation we ended up having after being interrupted by said toddler demanding my attention.
Graeme had just helped one of his daughters outsource some of her homework!
And by help, the only part he played was providing an allowance for homework outsourcing, and obviously mentoring her when she needed guidance in developing this skill.
I know right - I was as shocked as you were! And that was 9 years ago, well before outsourcing was as common as it is now… I mean, we were still using Skype for goodness sake!
I’m pretty sure that it was that conversation that first planted the seed in my mind, and heart, that we were going to be raising our kids in a way that was so different to what we had known growing up and that was going to take some getting our minds around.
Fast forward to now, where my 11 and 9 year olds still demands my attention during zoom calls with Graeme, and I am just so very grateful that I’ve had the privilege of working with the team at TomorrowToday.
A team who have opened my eyes to what the future holds for my kids, a team that help me unlearn things on a daily basis and a team who I can reach out to on days when I’m having a parenting wobble and need some wisdom, advice or just a kick up the bum.
Do you have mentors to help you on your parenting journey?
